If you have a bit of noisy cabling or bad household grounds, however, digital will be cleaner for sure. I actually prefer it, but only because digital encoding in pre-output and then decoding again at the receiver/speakers tends to add a bit of noticeable latency, and it bugs me in certain games. but they're also usually too short, so maybe you'll need to do a bit of shopping anyway. If it matters for the critics and audiophiles, I currently have a set of Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 speakers, Sennheiser HD280 Pro headphones, and Bose IE2 earbuds. Pretty easy to forget about the included cables. I was about to sell it until I realized it was a 100 sound card - now I want to know if it would be considered an upgrade to my existing X-Fi Titanium HD card. I assume your card might be second-hand, but maybe take a look in its box if you haven't already. But conceptually you're looking for a TOSLINK 3.5mm adapter or "TOSLINK mini adapter". The adapters can just clip on, or as I said, you can find a cable with a fixed end like that. if you're going to a store or ordering online, you'll probably just find a normal optical cable that includes adapters). What you need is an optical adapter (or use a cable with one of these ends on it. Indeed the RCA outputs are a combo-output and there are little optical receiver/transmitter units in the respective ports.
